responding to mass hysteria - Temporary Monument

The current war memorial on the Dam square is already the third one since the end of the second world war. The first, which dates from 1946, consisted out of a wooden framework with flags and a text. The second a stone colonnade containing urns, from 1947 till 1955, was already more solid. The final monument, a 22m high column was erected in 1956 and was designed by J.J. P. Oud. In our current short memory, mass hysteria society temporary monuments seem to be the ideal answer. A temporary monument for Princess Juliana in March 2004, a temporary monument for Andre Hazes in September 2004, a temporary monument for Theo van Gogh in November 2004 and a temporary monument for Prince Bernhard in December 2004.
