A wide range of studies was done to provide for affordable housing for the inhabitants of Reunion island. The different houses are assembled out of Fur-bature, weather proof pre-fabricated building blocks that serve as supporting structure. These cores contain functions such as a bathroom or kitchen. The lay-out of these cores is based on individual preferences. The cores are enveloped by local materials, constituting a free and open “Leftover-space”. Fur-bature can be combined to basic dwellings, luxurious villas, hotels and elements addressing the public space.
